Hi! I'm Claudel, a human-AI interaction researcher. I recently completed a year back in academia, studying Data, Inequality and Society at the Edinburgh Futures Insitute. Previously, I was leading UX and human AI interaction at a data annotation and AI model validation company, Sama. Before that, I worked at ServiceNow and Element AI, doing design research with teams dedicated to building AI tools. I'm interested in critical AI and participatory research to engage civic society in shaping the technologies that surround them.

My impact: prototype production, embroidery, qualitative and quantitative research
The hypothesis this research explored is that data labelling could support citizens in making more informed and in-depth risk assessments of AI tools. This research took a dual approach, examining the craft of data annotation with data workers, as well as conducting a quantitative study in which citizens had to engage with an annotation task before evaluating AI risks.

My impact: prototype design, blueprint
This project explores how public consultations (e.g., government public consultations) can utilise AI to support self-annotation from participants and prompt them to connect their input to others, creating an initial qualitative review with participants involved. With participants becoming data annotators and validators of model outputs, it reframes the flow of interaction and gives back agency to users, letting them ensure the analysis stays true to their intended meaning. Moreover, in the process of annotation, a natural asynchronous dialogue between participants emerges.
